Chandrapur (Mohammad Suleman Baig) :

Chandrapur district, home to the highest tiger population in Maharashtra, has witnessed a concerning trend with the death of four tigers this month. The arrest of infamous poacher Ajit Rajgond by the forest department on January 25 in Rajura tehsil has intensified fears of tiger poaching.

Ajit, known for leading the Bahalia poaching gang, has a history of hunting 19 tigers in Maharashtra, as revealed in the Melghat case, which led to the arrest of 150 poachers in the past. Previously arrested by the Wildlife Crime Bureau in 2015, Ajit was sentenced but was released on bail in September 2024. His presence in Rajura and the recent tiger deaths have raised alarms among forest officials.
