Working around the birds in the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve’s Moharli (buffer) Range gave me much satisfaction. I’m grateful to Mr. Aniruddha Chawji, sir, for motivating me to learn about birds. Bird studies are essential because many people ignore bird species in favor of tigers.
He advised that I install an eBird app account to keep records and upload images of all the birds in the area, which would make it easier to educate tourists about birds and take them on birdwatching tours. Since then, I have begun birdwatching in Tadoba’s Moharli (buffer) Range in 2020. Over the last four years, I’ve observed 269 different bird species and photographed 175 of them brilliantly.
I spotted a variety of birds, including the Babbler, Kingfisher, Warbler, Dove, Pigeon, Drongo, Wagtail, Pipit, Owl/Owlet, Cuckoo, Woodpecker/Flameback, Flycatcher, Shrike, Lark, Sandpiper, Bunting, Duck, Goose, and Eagle, among others. So far, I’ve assisted the eBird app with 822 checklists. Birdwatching has allowed me to connect with many bird enthusiasts.
When I initially saw the birds, I assumed they were all crows or sparrows, and I didn’t know how to identify them apart. But over time, it became easier to recognize birds using their calls and names. There are still many species to observe in this area. I think that even a lifetime dedicated to this task would be insufficient. Sumedth Waghmare, commonly known as the Bird Man, has been appointed by the Tadoba administration to work on birds.
By recording bird weeps, he raises bird awareness among tourists and students. We went birdwatching together pretty often. So, friends, when you visit Tadoba, don’t just focus on the tigers; also, take notice of the beautiful bird species. It is critical to keep in mind that birds play an important role in nature.
