T53 tiger rescued & being treated in Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra

T53, a male tiger from the Deolapar Wildlife Range, was reported to be injured, likely from a territorial fight. Despite time passing, the wound wasn’t healing naturally. After examining close-up pictures and video clips and consulting with veterinarians, the department decided to rescue the animal.


Today, a tiger entered an abandoned old Protection Hut in compartment no. 509 in the Khursapar beat of the Deolapar Wildlife Range. Upon receiving this information, Mr. Vivek Rajurkar, Range Forest Officer of Deolapar Wildlife, Mr. Rahul Shinde, Range Forest Officer of Chorbahuli, Dr. Nikhil Bangar, Veterinary Officer from Pench Tiger Reserve, along with the Rapid Rescue Team and Special Tiger Protection Team, rushed to the spot. They tranquilized and rescued the male tiger T53, which had a deep wound between its eyes. The wound received primary treatment, and the tiger was placed in a cage for further routine care. The rescue operation was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Prabhu Nath Shukla, Deputy Director, and Ms. Pooja Limbgaonkar, Assistant Conservator of Forests, from the Anti-Poaching Unit of Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra.
