Chandrapur (Tejal Pohekar and Sunny Thatte):
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire people to take action to protect and preserve our planet.
One of the most pressing environmental issues facing India and the world is global warming, which is causing significant changes to our climate and ecosystems.
Today, our nation is facing even more severe consequences of global warming due to action is not taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the changing climate. According to a report by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India’s average temperature is expected to rise by 1.5-2 degrees Celsius by 2040, leading to more frequent and intense heatwaves, droughts, and extreme weather events.
The impacts of global warming in India are already being felt by communities across the country. Farmers are facing challenges due to unpredictable rainfall patterns and changing crop cycles, leading to food insecurity and loss of livelihoods. Coastal areas are experiencing sea-level rise and increased flooding, resulting in displacement of communities and loss of infrastructure.
To combat global warming and its impacts, India has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and increasing its use of renewable energy sources. The country has set ambitious targets for expanding solar and wind power capacity, improving energy efficiency, and increasing afforestation and reforestation efforts.
Individual actions can also make a difference in fighting global warming. Simple changes in our daily lives, such as reducing energy consumption, using public transportation or cycling instead of driving, and reducing waste can help lower our carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier planet.
On this World Environment Day, let us all pledge to take action to protect and preserve our environment for future generations. Together, we can work towards a sustainable and resilient India that is better equipped to face the challenges of global warming. Let us all strive to make a positive impact on our planet and ensure a healthier and more sustainable future for all.
